The Abrahamic Faith: Taking Courage from the Words of Modern Scholars
Anthony Buzzard
"Salvation is not for the
well meaning but for the desperate." (James Denny)
My purpose this evening is to bring encouragement to this
particular group of (sometimes beleaguered)' "Anabaptists" by
pointing to the powerful support offered us by distinguished writers on the
Bible and Christian history.

Who Was the "God" of the Old Testament?
Duane F.
Giles
Who was the
"God" that created the universe and said, Let there be light?"
Who made Adam and gave him the breath of life, and his human spirit? Who led
Israel out of Egypt? And, who is the one who is called "The God of our
Fathers?" Who was it that gave the Ten Commandments and said, "You

earth.' Hence it is said, 'Let all God's angels worship him';[that
must include Michael, the chief angel; hence, Michael is not the Son of God ]
and the reason is, because he has 'by inheritance obtained a more
excellent name than they.'

Scandalous Folly: The Cross or the Sword
And he has said to
me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is perfect in weakness.” Most
gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weakness, that the power of
Christ may dwell in me.
My
proposition is simple: Christian support of or participation in violence,
coercion or retaliation, whether collective or individual, with or without
legal authority, is incompatible with the example and teachings of Christ and
the New Testament.
