Are the Levitical Kosher Meats Laws Required For Believers Today?

Part I

Beginning in about 1960 I began to comply with the Levitical dietary kosher laws as a member of the Worldwide Church of God. The clean and unclean meats doctrine was a major doctrine of that organization. It was so important, in fact, that some members could be heard to say when someone left the church, "The next thing you know they’re going be eating pork," not, "The next thing you know they’re going to be lying, stealing, taking God’s name in vain, committing adultery, or committing murder."

When did it all begin? If you accept Walvoord's writings, Jn. 14:1-3 is the first mention of the Pre-Trib Rapture in the Bible. Much later, according to Walvoord, Paul was converted and God revealed the Pre-Trib rapture doctrine to him.

Did Cain and Abel Tithe?

There are several extant theories as to why tithing is required of modern day Christians. First and foremost among these is the over-used and much-abused story of Abraham tithing to Melchizedek following his return from the battle of the kings. The premise is that because Abraham “tithed” to Melchizedek long before the Mosaic tithing laws were instituted; this is proof-positive that the tithing laws were in force from the beginning.
